Race re-seats the Festival Hall
Race designed, manufactured and installed the seats recently installed at the Royal Festival Hall as part of its £100 million plus refurbishment. The original seats installed in 1951 were designed by Robin Day, and Race was commissioned to adapt the seats to incorporate revised standards of comfort, durability and acoustic performance.
Whilst much of the original chair design was retained, a number of totally new components were added with the others being refurbished. A total of 2,700 seats were installed including the choir seats which were a bespoke design manufactured from Elm wood and veneer panels.
